Sofia “Shock of the new”

This set of pictures was taken in Sofia back in May 2012. The city is changing fast and has been since the early 1990′s and the old is still visible either juxtaposed or slowly being eroded.  I have selected sights that seemed to throw themselves out as being in strong contrast to the traditional Bulgaria we have come to embrace living here in a village. A dramatic changes is visible with graphic anarchy subverting the establishment, like the painting of state statues to look like super heroes. People are keen to make a lev under whatever conditions are necessary. See the last photo of a salesman parading his T shirts on a bare concrete wall under a main road under the statue of Saint Sofia (erected in 2000 replacing Lenin’s monument)
